Helen De Michiel

Helen De Michiel is a Bay Area-based director, writer, and producer whose work spans independent film, digital platforms, and participatory media. She is the founding director of Thirty Leaves Production and former Executive Director of NAMAC (National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture).

De Michiel has served on the Peabody Awards Board and is co-author of Open Space New Media Documentary (Routledge, 2018), which examines how documentary practice is evolving in the age of networked media. Her notable films include Tarantella, Lunch Love Community, and Berkeley Vs. Big Soda, works that explore community, culture, and social change through innovative storytelling approaches.
